Fine Tuning Young Voices

Young peoples singing workshop

More than 60 young people - and one somewhat older Express music writer - took part in the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir’s annual workshop at Manygates Music Centre last Sunday.
Led by the choir’s ebullient conductor, Andrew Padmore, it was an afternoon combining education and enjoyment in equal measure, working on vocal techniques then applying them to pieces ranging from a Zulu spiritual to Handel’s classic Zadok the Priest.
The event culminated in members of the choir joining the young singers for a public performance in front of more than 150 people.
Choir chairman Richard Haigh said “The afternoon was a tremendous success. We had twice as many participants as last year.
They put in a great deal of hard work and learned an awful lot in a short time. Most importantly, the end result sounded excellent.” - Wakefield Express
